A Spanish theme park is building an Uncharted rollercoaster

A Spanish theme park is getting a rollercoaster based on the Uncharted games.

PortAventura World in Tarragona will be opening the ride in 2023, according to a new announcement video published this week.

Although no further information was given on the ride, a supporting tweet showed a compass emoji (presumably to depict Nathan Drake’s adventuring) and a rollercoaster emoji.

“Welcome Uncharted to PortAventura World,” the tweet reads. “New attraction, more emotions.”

A rollercoaster is already in development at PortAventura,  and photos of its development have been shared by theme park Twitter news account Freak Planet.

According to HobbyConsolas, this is an indoor rollercoaster, being built in the Far West area of the theme park. This area has a wild west theme with a Grand Canyon rapids ride and other western-themed sculptures, similar to Frontierland in Disneyland.

It’s therefore believed that given how far along the ride’s construction is, and given the scenery in the Far West area, this rollercoaster is likely to be the Uncharted ride.

This would technically be the first theme park attraction based on a PlayStation IP, though the Ice Blast ride in UK’s Blackpool Pleasure Beach was known as PlayStation: The Ride between 1997 (when it opened) and 2002.

In 2010, the Spinball Whizzer ride in the UK’s Alton Towers was renamed Sonic Spinball and given a new paint scheme, signage and audio. It changed back to Spinball Whizzer in 2016.

Another UK theme park, Thorpe Park, has had its own Angry Birds land since 2014, with a number of attractions based on the mobile title.
