Spider-Man 2 star claims ‘massive, astonishing’ sequel is on track for 2023 release
Voice actor says Insomniac is “confident” about its launch window
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 actor Yuri Lowenthal has described the upcoming PS5 game as “massive” and “astonishing”.
In December, developer Insomniac Games announced that Spider-Man 2 is scheduled for release this fall/autumn.
And in a new interview with Comic Book Movie, the actor who voices Spider-Man in the game series claimed the Sony studio is confident about the sequel’s launch window.
“It’s a massive game so I’m still doing a little bit of work,” Yuri Lowenthal said. “I know they’re confident about their release date and Insomniac has always been good about that. Obviously, I can’t really talk about the game much, but I will tell you that it’s astonishing.”
“I’m so excited for you to play it,” he added. “They know they’ve got big shoes to fill from the last two games and they’ve done it. I just can’t wait for people to play it.”
Sony announced Spider-Man 2 in September 2021 with a teaser trailer which confirmed Venom as the sequel’s key villain.
“We’re so thrilled to continue the journey of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales in their most epic single-player adventure yet, coming exclusively to PlayStation 5 consoles in 2023,” Insomniac’s head of franchise strategy and studio relations Ryan Schneider in a PlayStation Blog post.
“While pushing the capabilities of the console will be very exciting, we’re equally pumped to craft all-new stories for Peter and Miles in this sequel. Just as in our previous Spider-Man games, we not only want to tell a great superhero story, but also deliver a compelling human story, one full of heart and humour that dives deep into the people behind the mask.”
Schneider also confirmed that many of the original Spider-Man game’s development team would be returning for the sequel, including creative director Bryan Intihar and game director Ryan Smith.
Venom will be voiced by Tony Todd, the actor best known for playing Candyman in the horror series of the same name, while Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter are returning to voice Peter Parker and Miles Morales respectively.
Insomniac is also working on a Wolverine game for PS5. The standalone title is being directed by Brian Horton and Cameron Christian, who were the creative leads on Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
