Capcom says it’s on track for an 11th straight year of growth after strong sales

Capcom has said it’s on track to achieve 11 consecutive years of operating income growth following a strong first half of its fiscal year.

For the six months ended September 30, 2023, the Japanese publisher said sales and profits rose largely thanks to the continued momentum of its core Digital Contents business.

Total software sales during the first half of the year came in at 22.6 million units, up from 21.3 million a year earlier. Capcom said digital sales of its games were particularly strong.

The company’s best-selling game during the first six-month period was Street Fighter 6, which has now surpassed 2.47 million units since its release at the start of June.

The Resident Evil 4 remake sold a further 1.66 million copies during the first half of the fiscal year, taking its lifetime total to 5.45 million following its release in March. Capcom’s top-selling franchise of all time has now surpassed 150 million sales.

The publisher launched a new IP, Exoprimal, in mid-July for PC, Xbox and PlayStation consoles. The game, which was available for Game Pass on console and PC at launch, sold fewer than 940,000 copies by the end of September.

During the six-month period, Capcom said net sales were up 52.7% year-over-year to 74,934 million yen, operating income rose 54.5% to 33,835 million yen, ordinary income jumped 57.3% to 36,164 million yen, and net income leapt 56.7% to 25,287 million yen.

The company said its results put it “on track to achieve its full-year earnings forecast along with 11 consecutive years of operating profit growth”.
